College Credit Opportunities

St. Augustine Prep offers students a rigorous curriculum that includes an Advanced Placement Program and a Dual Credit Program to prepare our students for the top colleges and universities in the United States. Teachers design their own AP courses within guidelines set by either the College Board or the host college to ensure standards for college-level instruction are met.

The Advanced Placement (AP) Program,  sponsored by the College Board, enables willing and academically prepared students to pursue college-level studies while in high school.  Enrollment in these classes requires a student to meet the course prerequisites, detailed in the 9-12 course catalog.  In these classes, exams are administered once a year according to the schedule set by the College Board.

The Dual Credit Program also allows our students to take college-level courses. Most AP-level classes are also part of the dual credit program; however, the dual credit program extends to other classes as well. Humanities and STEM dual credit courses are designated by *DC in our 9-12 course catalog. A student’s grade in a Dual Credit course will be part of his college academic record via an official Camden County Community College transcript and participation requires a nominal fee. Students who receive a B or higher on the college transcript may receive college credit from the university they attend after graduating from the Prep.

Unlike AP classes, students do not have to pass an exam to earn college credit in the Dual Credit Program. The single exception to this is the AP Biology course for which students must also take the College Board Advanced Placement Exam held in May.

Please note, not all colleges accept dual enrollment credits or AP scores for credit. Students should discuss this with their college counselors when applying to specific universities.

Hear it from the Prep Community

Our son truly benefited from the Dual Credit Program at the Prep.  He was able to take 12 college credits prior to graduating high school.  He was able to transfer all of these credits to his university which allowed him to achieve his undergraduate degree in only 3 1/2 years!  This was both a huge financial saving, as well as allowing him to be a more competitive job applicant in his field of data analytics.
