Bilella '26 Restores Historic Train Station to Earn Eagle Scout Honor

Four Eagle Scouts, One Hermit Family: Jonathan Bilella ’26 Continues a Proud Tradition

Rising senior Jonathan Bilella ’26 has joined rare company—not only within the Hermit Brotherhood but also within his own remarkable family. By earning the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout, Jonathan follows in the footsteps of his brothers, James Bilella III ’19 and Joseph Bilella ’22, and their father, James Bilella II P’19’22’26—making four Eagle Scouts in one extraordinary St. Augustine Prep family.

For his Eagle Scout project in New Jersey, Jonathan chose to restore the deteriorating platform at the West Jersey Camden & Amboy Railroad Berlin Station, affectionately known as the Long-a-Coming Depot. This station, built in 1856, is the oldest existing train station in the state. Motivated by childhood memories of watching trains pass by and a deep respect for local history, Jonathan’s project focused on ensuring visitor safety while preserving a cherished community landmark.

His work has earned widespread recognition, including honors from the Daughters of the American Revolution for Excellence in Historic Preservation and the Marlton Elks with their 2024 Eagle Scouts Achievement Award.

At St. Augustine Prep, we are proud of our storied tradition of Hermits who achieve the rank of Eagle Scout—young men who exemplify leadership, service, and a lifelong commitment to their communities. Jonathan Bilella ’26 is the latest to carry that legacy forward, leaving a lasting impact both on campus and beyond.
