A Historic Day for Hermits Baseball: Three Alumni Drafted in the 2025 MLB Draft

Three Hermits Selected in 2025 MLB Draft

St. Augustine Prep made history during the 2025 MLB Draft as three alumni from the Class of 2022 were selected by Major League Baseball franchises. This extraordinary accomplishment marks a proud moment for the Hermits Baseball program and reflects the lasting impact of the school’s commitment to developing scholar-athletes of character, discipline, and talent.

Congratulations to:

  • Josiah Ragsdale ’22 – 7th Round (No. 215 overall), Milwaukee Brewers

  • Ryan Weingartner ’22 – 8th Round (No. 240 overall), St. Louis Cardinals

  • Holden deJong ’22 – 11th Round (No. 334 overall), Baltimore Orioles

Josiah Ragsdale ’22 – Milwaukee Brewers (7th Round)

After beginning his post-St. Augustine collegiate career at Iona, Josiah Ragsdale transferred to Boston College, where he had a breakout 2025 season in the competitive ACC. He hit .319 with 66 hits, 30 stolen bases, and a .418 on-base percentage, earning praise for his elite speed and strong plate discipline.

A former Cape Cod League standout, Ragsdale brings a rare combination of speed and maturity to the field, making him a strong value pick in the 7th round by the Milwaukee Brewers.

Ryan Weingartner ’22 – St. Louis Cardinals (8th Round)

Ryan Weingartner, who played for St. Joseph’s University before transferring to Penn State, had a record-setting 2025 season with the Nittany Lions. He hit 11 home runs, drove in 40 RBI, and stole 30 bases—breaking the school’s single-season record.

Known for his athleticism and offensive spark, Weingartner’s well-rounded skill set drew the attention of the St. Louis Cardinals, who selected him with the 240th overall pick.

Holden deJong ’22 – Baltimore Orioles (11th Round)

Holden deJong became the highest-drafted player in NJIT history when the Baltimore Orioles selected him in the 11th round. A right-handed pitcher with an electric arm, deJong posted a 3.41 ERA with 31 strikeouts in just 29 innings.

deJong impressed scouts with his command and resilience, securing his place among the top collegiate arms in the draft class.

This trio of MLB draft picks marks yet another milestone for the Hermits Baseball program and adds to the storied tradition of the athletic program at the Prep. These three young men have not only achieved personal milestones—they’ve also inspired the next generation of scholar-athletes who will follow their footsteps.
