Mr. Garufi, an alumnus of the Prep class of '67, joined the faculty ranks in 1972 as an instructor of mathematics. In 1977, with the help of many students working hard at fund raising, Mr. Garufi purchased the Prep's first computer. From that year on, St. Augustine Prep offered computer training to its students. For quite a few years the Prep was the only school in the area with a computer curriculum which included programming and application training.

Through the decade of the 80's, Mr. Garufi also developed administrative software for a number of Catholic High Schools so that they could automate grading, attendance and financial processing.

In 1987 Mr. Garufi was hired by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Technical Center to support their navigation program on a part time basis through the school year and full time in the summer. This adjunct position is still maintained to this day and affords Prep students real world applications brought to the classroom by Mr. Garufi.

Mr. Garufi is the Prep's Director of Technology. In that capacity he is responsible for keeping the school's technology state of the art. The school boasts leading edge technology with three full computer labs, one mini-lab and many other pc's throughout the library, science labs and classrooms.

In 1996 Mr. Garufi was presented with a plaque from Governor C. Whitman in recognition of being runner-up for Teacher of the Year, non-public schools in the State of New Jersey. Mr. Garufi's resume was chosen runner-up from a field of 2000 applicants.
