Mr. Coyle began his teaching carrer in 1969 as a Math and Science Teacher and Director of Physical Education at Oxford Academy in West Atlantic City, N.J.
In 1971 Mr. Coyle began a long relationship with the Linwood Public School system where he taught Science and Social Studies from 1971 to 1973, then Health & Physical Education from 1973 to 2002. He became Director of Athletics from 1983 to 2002.
During the 1970's he created a Girls Basketball program along with boys and girls track programs. During his time at Belhaven he instituted eight additional interscholastic sports programs.
Mr. Coyle always had an interest in technology and was appointed to the first technology program in the Linwood system where he enjoyed bringing the idea of technology in the classroom to the rest of the faculty.
In 1975 he was named Outstanding Teacher of America, Channel 40 Sports Person of the Week 1991, Scholastic Coach Magazine Outstanding Education Award 1992 and N.J. Governors Outstanding Teacher Award 1995.
Mr. Coyle also served as a councilman for 9 years in the City of Absecon.
